This Hallowed Ground

Day 2 Scenario

(Sickles Obeys Orders this time!)

[This to notice, we use casualty markers to keep track of artillery ammo (red-canister, yellow-shot/shell) We also use markers to identify wrecked units (red-regiment, yellow-brigade, blue-division)

Due to Hurricane Rita we had to restart the game. Original game (what there is of it, is at the bottom)

AAR...Well, here we go again.  Sorry for the overhead light, I never noticed it while take these shots.  The CSA has decided, again!, on a flanking attack around the Union right flank.  We will see how this goes.  You will also notice that Sickles is moving to where he was SUPPOSED to be.  Most interesting  shot may be the advance against Buford and his cavalry.  At the start of last game, I was able to hold Chris up for over an hour with my cavalry screen.  This time, it looks like he is not going to play around and is massing for a stronger push to get the cav. out of the way quickly.  Wonder why?  Looks to me like he wants to attack both flanks at once.  If that is so, his exterior lines may do him in!  More when we play again.

US Turn yet to complete

It is now obvious that Lee plans on a flanking movement around the Union right.  Meade was unable to get orders through to shift some forces quickly and the delay has cost them.  There is hope that the 5th corps coming in from behind will stop the attack.  Longstreet seems to be turning towards the Union left in come fashion.  Not quite sure where he is going yet.  One thing of note...Lee has been wrecking havoc on the Union artillery.  He was able to deploy his faster than Meade and now the Union is paying the price for it.

US Yet to Fire

Moving SLOW but sure.  Only took pictures where the action was.  On the CSA Left there is going to be a good sized engagement over the bridge and ford.  USA needs to hold until more forces arrive BEHIND the Rebels.  On the far CSA Right, Buford is still holding the flank and is quite a other to Heath and the boys.  On the CSA Right an artillery duel might develop. IF, and only IF, the USA can get their artillery deployed...yes all those DGs are batteries trying to set up...I have never see such uncanny die rolls and from long range to boot.

AAR...it would appear as it Lee has ordered Hill's Corps south, down Seminary Ridge.  Buford had previously advanced Devin's Brigade to the ridge to provide a cavalry screen. Two of Heath's  Brigades was forced to deploy, the 6th NY Regiment was almost surrounded but managed to pull back before it could be completed. Both sides exchanged fire with modesty damage.  The two sharpshooter Regiments from the III Corps came up to support the cavalry and managed to hit and shake the 42 VA Regiment forcing it to withdraw.

US Turn yet to complete

AAR...Buford, his cavalry and the Sharpshooters from the Second Corps area still delaying Hill's Corps but I might have left them in place 15 minutes too long, they were hit hard this time. I am going to pull them back when I move next time we play.  Looks like Longstreet's Corps is going to try and turn the Union right flank.  An artillery duel between Union batteries on Cemetery Hill and Rebel batteries at the City limits began as soon as the two lines could see each other.  The CSA has had the better of the attack since Alexander has taken charge.  A brigade of Steinwher's Division could not stand the scene and moved forward to charge the Confederate batteries.  It wasn't pretty but it forced the Rebels to bring up some infantry to support their batteries.  Finally, look closely near Wolf Hill, Jenkins cavalry is trying an end run. We will see what becomes of them next Sunday

AAR...just beginning the CSA move (not much time to play this week)  In the last 30 minutes Hill's Corps finally was able to push Buford back far enough to advance.  Buford is battered but still watching the flank as per orders.  Longstreet is moving to the Union right with Hood and (of course!) Robertson's brigade in the lead.  Jenkins evidently had orders to move into the Union rear and hold the ground for Longstreet.  Unfortunately for Jenkins two Federal batteries had been forced to withdraw from Culp's Hill and were in perfect position to fire on the Rebel cavalry while they were still mounted and did a good bit of damage.
